Who might be able to join this trial:
For all participants:
- Hearing must be within the normal range (as measured by a standard hearing test)
- Vision must be correctable to 20/20 (for example, with glasses or contact lenses)
- Must not have been born prematurely (before 36 weeks of pregnancy)
- Must not be taking any medications known to interfere with brainwave (EEG) recordings
- English must be the person's first language
Additional criteria for the Autism group:
- A formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, confirmed through a recognised assessment process (called the ADOS) and developmental history
Additional criteria for the Autism + Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) group:
- A confirmed diagnosis of Fragile X Syndrome through documented genetic testing (PCR or Southern Blot)
- A formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, as described above
Additional criteria for the Typically Developing group:
- No parents or siblings with Autism Spectrum Disorder or Fragile X Syndrome
- No current neurological or psychiatric diagnoses
- An IQ score above 75
Who may not be able to join:
- People with hearing loss
- People with vision loss that cannot be fully corrected
- People who were born prematurely (before 36 weeks of pregnancy)
