Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 10 and 21 years old
- A doctor has diagnosed you with type 2 diabetes
- Your medications have been stable for at least 2 weeks before your first study visit (no new medications added or removed, and no large changes in insulin dose)
- It has been at least 1 month since you were first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
- You are currently taking regular metformin (not the extended-release version)
- You are able to wear a continuous glucose monitor (a small sensor that tracks blood sugar) for a total of 6 weeks during the study
- You speak English or Spanish
- You are willing to follow the study's recommendations and procedures
- You, or your parent or guardian, are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
- You and your parent(s) or guardian(s) are willing to attend all training sessions required by the study team
Who may not be able to join:
- You have tested positive for certain antibodies related to the pancreas (such as GAD-65, insulin, IA-2, ICA 512, or Zn-T8) — these are markers sometimes linked to a different type of diabetes (confirm with trial site)
- You have a known history of ongoing kidney or liver disease
- You have a known history of a significant mental health condition or developmental delay that would make it difficult to complete study activities on your own
