Who might be able to join this trial:
- People diagnosed with incurable adenocarcinoma (a type of cancer) of the esophagus or stomach that cannot be cured.
- People whose cancer has come back after treatment that was aimed at curing it, or whose cancer had already spread or could not be surgically removed at the time of first diagnosis.
- People who are willing and able to take part in an exercise and nutrition program and wear an activity tracker.
- People who are willing and able to complete specific questionnaires about their health and quality of life (called POCOP/RADICES questionnaires).
- People with a life expectancy of more than 12 weeks, as assessed by their medical team.
- People aged 18 years or older.
Who may not be able to join:
- People with unstable bone metastases (cancer that has spread to the bones) that make the bones fragile, as determined by their treating doctor.
- People with brain metastases (cancer that has spread to the brain) that are causing symptoms and have not yet been treated.
- People with a serious active infection.
- People who are already very physically active, doing more than 210 minutes per week of moderate to vigorous intentional exercise, or who are already doing intense exercise training similar to what this trial involves.
- People with severe neurological (nerve or brain-related) or heart-related conditions, based on specific medical guidelines.
- People with severe breathing difficulties that are not well controlled, or who need supplemental oxygen while resting or exercising, as determined by their treating doctor.
- People with severe pain that is not well controlled.
- People who have any other medical reason that their doctor determines makes exercise unsafe for them.
- People whose circumstances would make it difficult to follow the study requirements or to give informed consent, as determined by their treating doctor.
- People who are pregnant.
