Who might be able to join this trial:

• You are between 18 and 40 years old and are connected to Yale University or the surrounding community, with or without a diagnosis of depression.
• You are between 18 and 40 years old and have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, autistic disorder, PDD NOS, or Asperger syndrome, with or without a diagnosis of depression.
• If you have depression, your depression score on a standard rating scale (HDRS-17) must meet a minimum threshold of 20 (confirm with trial site).
• You are either not taking any medications, or you have been on a stable medication routine for at least two weeks.
• You are willing and able to take part in brain wave (EEG) and eye-tracking tests.
• You are able and willing to sign a consent form agreeing to participate.

Who may not be able to join:

• You have had a significant head injury or serious brain illness.
• You are unable to sign a consent form yourself.
• You have a major psychiatric condition, such as psychosis or bipolar disorder, that would make it difficult to complete the study.
• You have a history of serious medical illness, stroke, seizures, abnormal brain wave patterns on an EEG, or a family history of epilepsy.
• You are taking prescription medications that may affect the thinking or brain processes being studied.
• You are taking any medication that could increase your risk of having a seizure.
• You have used alcohol or recreational drugs in the 24 hours before your scheduled visit (checked by a urine test).
• You have had a problem with substance or alcohol misuse in the past 6 months.
• You have active thoughts of suicide, or have made a suicide attempt in the last 6 months.
• You are pregnant, suspected to be pregnant, or test positive on a pregnancy test.
• You have a history of working with metal or have ever been injured by metal fragments or shrapnel.
• You have previously had TMS (a type of brain stimulation) therapy, or have taken part in a study using an experimental drug in the past 12 weeks.
• Your IQ score is below 80, as measured by a specific intelligence test used in this study (confirm with trial site).
