Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with Level 1 Autism Spectrum Disorder (the least support-requiring level) according to the DSM-5 diagnostic guidelines
  • People aged between 18 and 35 years old
  • People who are able to understand and communicate in Italian
  • People who are able to give informed consent to participate

Who may not be able to join:

  • People diagnosed with Level 2 or Level 3 Autism Spectrum Disorder (higher support-requiring levels) according to DSM-5 guidelines
  • People who currently have a major psychiatric condition, such as major depression, bipolar disorder, or a psychotic disorder
  • People who are currently experiencing serious thoughts of suicide, or who have a history of a serious suicide attempt that the lead researcher considers a significant concern (this is assessed during a screening stage)
  • People who have ever been diagnosed with a neurological condition such as epilepsy (childhood febrile convulsions are an exception), or who have a severe ongoing physical illness
  • People who are currently taking psychiatric or mood-affecting medications, unless they have been on a stable dose of a single SSRI antidepressant for at least 8 months
  • People whose IQ score is below 70
  • People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or at risk of becoming pregnant and not using an effective form of contraception
  • People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial involving medication
