Who might be able to join this trial:

• You are between 14 and 65 years old (inclusive) at the time of your screening visit.
• Your seizures have not been controlled well enough by anti-seizure medications.
• You have been diagnosed with a type of epilepsy where seizures start in a specific area of the brain and mainly involve movement or sensation, and doctors have identified that the seizure-causing area is likely in or around the motor or sensory regions of the brain.
• In the month before your screening visit, you had at least 3 seizures of this type, and you have been on a stable anti-seizure medication routine (no medicines added or removed, though dose changes are allowed).
• During the 3-month baseline period after your screening visit, you or your caregiver can keep a daily seizure diary, you continue to have an average of 3 or more of these seizures per month (with no gap of more than 30 days between seizures), and your medication routine stays stable.
• After a full medical evaluation before any procedure, doctors have decided that traditional surgery to remove the seizure-causing area is not suitable for you, you have chosen not to have that surgery, or a previous surgical procedure did not work well enough.
• You are willing and able to give written informed consent to participate.

Who may not be able to join:

• You have been diagnosed with a type of epilepsy that affects the whole brain or is caused by an inherited gene mutation affecting ion channels.
• Your seizures mainly involve complex movements such as repetitive automatic behaviours or very fast, exaggerated movements.
• You have had a prolonged, continuous tonic-clonic seizure (status epilepticus) within the last 12 months.
• You have had seizures that were found to be psychological rather than neurological in origin within the last 12 months.
• You have a structural problem or damage in a specific deep brain region called the subthalamic nucleus.
• You already have an electrical stimulation device implanted anywhere in your body (such as a heart pacemaker or spinal cord stimulator), or you have any metal implants in your head (such as aneurysm clips or cochlear implants) — note that a vagal nerve stimulator may be allowed if its settings have been stable for at least 3 months before screening (confirm with trial site).
• You have a condition that increases your risk of bleeding during or after surgery, or you need to take blood-thinning or anti-clotting medications regularly.
• You have an IQ below 55 or severe difficulties with thinking and memory that would prevent you from completing the study.
• You have a neurological condition that is getting progressively worse over time (such as Rasmussen's encephalitis).
• You have been diagnosed with a serious mental health condition such as dementia, severe depression (including any history of suicidal or self-harming thoughts, or a psychiatric hospital admission within the last 5 years), schizophrenia, or a brain-degenerative disorder.
• You have another serious physical illness or significantly reduced liver or kidney function.
• You are pregnant or planning to become pregnant within the next 2 years.
• You have taken part in another clinical trial within the last 3 months.
• The medical team at the trial centre has assessed that you are not suitable for enrolment for any other reason.
