Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Children between 4 and 14 years of age who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Who may not be able to join:

  • Children older than 14 years of age
  • Children who weigh less than 10 kg (approximately 22 pounds)
  • Anyone with a history of severe allergic reactions
  • Anyone with a history of serious head injury, such as one that caused loss of consciousness, required a hospital stay, involved a broken skull, or resulted in a stroke
  • Anyone who has had a seizure within the past year, or who currently takes or has previously taken seizure medications
  • Anyone with a serious or uncontrolled ongoing health condition affecting the body (confirm with trial site)
  • Anyone who would not be able to follow the required medication schedule and attend all follow-up appointments
  • Anyone currently taking stimulant or non-stimulant medications used for ADHD — these must be stopped at least 7 days before the study begins
  • Anyone taking a type of antidepressant called an SSRI must have been on a stable, unchanged dose for at least 30 days before joining the study
  • Anyone who was born prematurely before 35 weeks of pregnancy
  • Anyone who had a stroke or other serious injury before birth (confirm with trial site)
