- People whose kidneys have failed to the point of requiring dialysis.
- People who have metallic or electronic implants, such as pacemakers or defibrillators, that are not safe for use in a 3.0-Tesla MRI scanner.
- People who have an insulin pump or glucose sensor that cannot be removed.
- People who have braces on their teeth.
- People who weigh more than 300 pounds (approximately 136 kg), as the MRI scanner table has size and weight restrictions.
- People who have any other reason they cannot safely undergo an MRI scan, such as claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces) or metallic-based tattoos (confirm with trial site).
