Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have an older sibling formally diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), where that diagnosis was confirmed using one of two standard assessment tools (ADOS-2 or ADI-R).
- People who have an older sibling without ASD and no family history of ASD in any close or extended family member (parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or cousins).
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a diagnosis or strong physical signs of a genetic condition or syndrome (for example, fragile X syndrome) that is known to be linked to ASD.
- People who have a significant medical or neurological condition that affects growth, development, or thinking ability (for example, a brain infection, seizure disorder, or a heart condition present from birth).
- People who have a sensory impairment such as vision or hearing loss.
- People who were born with a low birth weight (under 2,000 grams) or were born prematurely (before 37 weeks of pregnancy).
- People who may have been exposed before birth to substances known to potentially harm brain development, such as alcohol or certain prescription medications.
- People for whom an MRI scan would not be safe, for example due to metal implants in the body.
- People who have a close family member (parent or sibling) with a history of intellectual disability, psychosis, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder.
