Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 65 years old at the time of screening
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI — a measure of body weight relative to height) is between 30 and 50
- If you have Type 2 diabetes and are not taking diabetes medication, your fasting blood sugar level is above 6.1 mmol/l at the time of joining
- If you are not on any diabetes medications, your HbA1c (a measure of average blood sugar over time) is between 6.5 and 9.0 at the time of joining
Who may not be able to join:
- Your BMI is above 50 or below 30
- You were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes less than 6 months ago
- You have a history of gut or digestive diseases, such as liver scarring (cirrhosis) or inflammatory bowel disease
- You have an active cancer that is not currently in remission (skin cancers of certain types may be excepted — confirm with trial site)
- You currently have an ongoing widespread infection in your body
- You have long-term (chronic) inflammation of the pancreas
- You have any long-term liver disease
- You have a psychiatric condition that is not well managed, such as severe depression, schizophrenia, or psychosis
- You have had an eating disorder at any point in the last 5 years
- You have a serious pre-existing heart or lung condition, such as heart failure, irregular heartbeat, or chronic lung disease
- Your blood pressure is not well controlled (too high)
