Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults aged 19 or older who have been diagnosed with diabetes
  • People whose carotid ultrasound (a scan of the neck arteries) showed a wall thickness measurement of 1.0mm or more
  • People who have not made any changes to their combination of medications — including diabetes, blood pressure, or cholesterol medicines — in the past three months
  • People whose HbA1c blood sugar level (a measure of average blood sugar over time) is 10% or less
  • People who have willingly agreed to take part and signed a consent form

Who may not be able to join:

  • People currently taking blood-thinning or clot-preventing medications, other than aspirin
  • People who have a bleeding disorder or a condition that may increase the risk of bleeding, such as hemophilia, fragile blood vessels, brain bleeding, stomach bleeding, blood in the urine, or eye bleeding (confirm with trial site)
  • People with an active stomach ulcer, a bleeding stroke in the past 6 months, surgery in the past 3 months, advanced diabetic eye disease, or uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • People who have had a stroke, mini-stroke, heart attack, unstable chest pain, or a heart procedure (such as bypass surgery or a stent) in the past 6 months
  • People with severe kidney or liver disease
  • People with heart failure
  • People who have had an allergic reaction to the study drug or any of its ingredients
  • Women who are pregnant or think they may be pregnant
  • Women who are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed during the study
