Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years old or older and have been diagnosed with gastric intestinal metaplasia (a change in the stomach lining) or have had, or currently have, an H. pylori infection (a type of stomach bacteria)
- You are already scheduled to have a stomach camera examination (gastroscopy) as part of your normal medical care
- You are willing and able to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- Your gastroscopy is being done to monitor or treat another condition, such as swollen veins in the food pipe, or to perform procedures like stretching the food pipe, placing a feeding tube, or removing tissue
- You have been diagnosed with a stomach condition other than gastric intestinal metaplasia or stomach cancer
- You have taken antibiotics at any point in the four weeks before your gastroscopy
- You have taken proton pump inhibitors (acid-reducing medicines) or bismuth-based treatments (certain stomach medicines) within at least two weeks before your gastroscopy
- Important information about you is not available, such as your H. pylori status, any treatment you had for H. pylori, your sex, age, whether you smoke, or whether a close family member (parent, sibling, or child) has had stomach cancer
- You do not have the mental ability to fully understand what the study involves or to give your consent to take part
