Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 75 years old (male or female)
- A tissue sample (biopsy) taken before surgery has confirmed you have stomach cancer located in the upper third of the stomach (including where the stomach meets the food pipe)
- Your cancer is at an early stage (Stage Ia or Ib, meaning it has not spread extensively into surrounding tissue or lymph nodes)
- Scans and imaging taken before surgery (chest X-ray, abdominal ultrasound, or CT scan) show the cancer has not spread to distant parts of the body
- You have been assessed as fit enough for surgery (rated ASA grade 1, 2, or 3 by your medical team)
- You have no medical reasons that would prevent you from having surgery
- You and your family are willing to voluntarily sign a consent form to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- You have been diagnosed with another primary cancer elsewhere in the body, or the cancer has spread to distant organs
- Your stomach tumor is located on the greater curvature (the outer, longer curve) of the stomach
- You have a blood clotting disorder that cannot be treated or corrected
- You have been diagnosed with viral hepatitis or liver cirrhosis
- You have diabetes, whether uncontrolled or managed with insulin
- You have serious failure of major organs, such as the heart, lungs, liver, brain, or kidneys
- You have fluid build-up in your abdomen (ascites) or significant unintended weight loss and muscle wasting (cachexia) before surgery
- You have a condition that weakens your immune system, or you take medications that suppress your immune system, or you have an autoimmune disease (such as lupus, or have had a bone marrow transplant) (confirm with trial site)
- You are unwilling to sign the study consent form
