Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with focal epilepsy (a type of epilepsy that starts in one specific area of the brain) that has not responded to medication, where at least two of the following point to the same area of the brain: the pattern of seizures, brainwave testing (EEG), or a type of brain scan taken during a seizure (SPECT-CT).
- People who have previously had at least one MRI brain scan using a detailed epilepsy-specific scanning method, where that scan did not find a visible cause for the epilepsy.
- People who are able to give written consent to have an MRI scan. For people under 18 years old, a parent or guardian may provide consent on their behalf.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have metal implants or other conditions that make having an MRI scan unsafe or not recommended.
- People who are unable to stay still or cooperate during an MRI scan.
- People who are unable to give informed consent to participate in the study.
