  • Children between 4 and 10 years old who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder using two specific assessment tools called the ADOS scale and the CARS.

Who may not be able to join:

  • Children who have taken antibiotics (medicines that fight bacterial infections) in the month before sample collection.
  • Children who have taken antimycotics (medicines that fight fungal infections) in the month before sample collection.
  • Children who have been taking probiotic supplements (products containing live beneficial bacteria) in the month before sample collection.
  • Children who have been taking prebiotic supplements (products that help feed beneficial gut bacteria) in the month before sample collection.
  • Children who have taken any other medication that could change the balance of bacteria in their gut within the month before sample collection.
  • Children who are currently following a strict special diet, unless it is a diet that removes casein (a protein found in dairy) and/or gluten (a protein found in wheat and similar grains).
  • Children who have been diagnosed with coeliac disease or any other condition related to gluten sensitivity or intolerance.
  • Children who have an allergy to dairy products.
