Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are willing and able to give your consent to take part in the study
- You are 18 years old or older, of any gender
- Your doctor thinks you are suitable for routine liver cancer screening using ultrasound
- Your liver is functioning at a level rated as Child-Pugh A or B (a measure of how well your liver is working — confirm with trial site if unsure)
- You have been diagnosed with liver cirrhosis (scarring of the liver) caused by alcohol-related liver disease, a condition called MASLD (fatty liver disease), hepatitis C, hepatitis B, or a genetic condition called haemochromatosis
- Your personal risk of developing liver cancer is calculated to be at least 3% per year, based on a specific scoring tool called the aMAP score
- OR you have chronic liver disease and have previously been successfully treated for liver cancer, have had no return of the cancer, and are now attending routine 6-monthly liver ultrasound check-ups
Who may not be able to join:
- You are unable to have an MRI scan for any medical reason
- You have a known allergy or previous reaction to gadolinium contrast dye (a dye used in MRI scans)
- You are currently in prison
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have previously had a liver transplant
- You already have unclear or uncertain liver nodules (lumps) found on previous scans that are being monitored with MRI or CT scans
- You have previously had liver cancer treated with the aim of curing it and are still having CT or MRI scans with contrast dye to check for it coming back
- Your kidneys are not working well enough (based on a blood test result below a certain level — confirm with trial site)
- You are currently receiving kidney dialysis (haemodialysis)
- Your doctor feels you are unlikely to be able to follow the study procedures fully
- Your doctor feels you have another serious health condition that may sadly be likely to lead to death within the next 12 months
