Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 75 years, either male or female
- People who have recently been diagnosed with a type of stomach cancer called gastric adenocarcinoma, confirmed by a tissue sample (biopsy)
- People whose cancer is located in the stomach or where the stomach meets the food pipe (gastroesophageal junction), at a specific stage of disease (T3-4NxM0) as assessed by scans and internal camera examination
- People whose medical team has agreed, through a group consultation, that treatment with chemotherapy before surgery — or chemotherapy combined with immunotherapy before surgery — is appropriate, with a realistic chance of surgically removing the cancer afterward. The chemotherapy must be a specific type (fluoropyrimidine and platinum-based), and any immunotherapy must be a type called an immune checkpoint inhibitor
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have already received any cancer treatment for their current stomach cancer, or who have taken any cancer-fighting drugs for any reason in the past 4 weeks
- People who have another type of cancer or more than one primary cancer diagnosis
- People with serious other health conditions where life expectancy is estimated to be less than 5 years
- People with severe ongoing or active infections that require treatment with antibiotics or similar medications taken throughout the body (not just applied to the skin)
- People who have had a blood transfusion within the past week
- People who have received steroid medications or treatments that suppress the immune system within the past 2 weeks
- People who have received a live vaccine within the past 4 weeks
