Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 90 years old (male or female)
- You have been diagnosed with a type of cancer called adenocarcinoma in your oesophagus (food pipe) or stomach, confirmed by a biopsy, and you are scheduled to have surgery to remove the cancer or a keyhole procedure to check how far the cancer has spread
Who may not be able to join:
- Your cancer is not the adenocarcinoma type (for example, if you have squamous cell carcinoma of the oesophagus)
- You have taken antibiotics in the last 8 weeks
- You have previously had surgery to remove part or all of your oesophagus or stomach
- You have a known allergy to a drug called pimonidazole
- You are not able or not willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
- You are pregnant
