Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 18 and 90 years old (male or female)
  • You have been diagnosed with a type of cancer called adenocarcinoma in your oesophagus (food pipe) or stomach, confirmed by a biopsy, and you are scheduled to have surgery to remove the cancer or a keyhole procedure to check how far the cancer has spread

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your cancer is not the adenocarcinoma type (for example, if you have squamous cell carcinoma of the oesophagus)
  • You have taken antibiotics in the last 8 weeks
  • You have previously had surgery to remove part or all of your oesophagus or stomach
  • You have a known allergy to a drug called pimonidazole
  • You are not able or not willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part
  • You are pregnant
