Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 18 and 70 years old and are on a waiting list for a liver transplant
  • You are waiting for a liver transplant mainly because of decompensated cirrhosis (when the liver has stopped working well enough and is causing serious symptoms), regardless of what caused your liver disease
  • You are waiting for a liver transplant due to another type of long-term, end-stage liver disease (such as primary biliary cholangitis or primary sclerosing cholangitis) and your place on the waiting list is based on a scoring system called MELD
  • You are waiting for a liver transplant mainly because of liver cancer (HCC), with or without cirrhosis, whether or not the cancer meets certain size/spread criteria used by transplant centres
  • You are registered on a national transplant waiting list that uses the MELD scoring system, even if you have been given extra points or special exceptions on that list
  • You (or a family member or close person acting on your behalf, if you are unable to decide for yourself) have been told about the study and have not objected to your data being collected

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your liver cancer has spread into nearby blood vessels (such as the portal or hepatic veins), as shown on scans before transplant
  • Your liver cancer has spread to other parts of the body outside the liver, shown by scans or confirmed by a tissue sample
  • You are currently under a legal protection order, guardianship, or supervised care arrangement (confirm with trial site)
  • You receive a specific type of state medical assistance called AME (confirm with trial site)
  • You are already taking part in a related study called "LEOPARD PVC 1" (part of a research work package called WP2)
