Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years old or older
- You have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for at least 6 months
- You have kidney disease with specific levels of kidney function and/or protein in your urine, within certain ranges (confirm with trial site)
- Your blood potassium level is below a certain level at the screening appointment (confirm with trial site)
- You are already taking one of two specific diabetes medications (dapagliflozin or empagliflozin) at a stable dose for at least 4 weeks
- You are already taking a blood pressure medication from a specific group (ACE inhibitors or ARBs) at the highest dose you can tolerate without unacceptable side effects
- In the opinion of the study doctor, you do not have any physical, mental health, or addiction-related issues that would make you unsuitable for the study
Who may not be able to join:
- You have type 1 diabetes
- You are allergic to, or cannot tolerate, certain blood pressure medications (ACE inhibitors or ARBs)
- You are allergic to, or cannot tolerate, a type of medication called mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (confirm with trial site)
- You are allergic to, or cannot take, the class of diabetes medications called SGLT2 inhibitors
- You are currently pregnant or planning to become pregnant
- Your long-term blood sugar control (HbA1c) is above a certain level at enrolment (confirm with trial site)
- Your blood pressure is too high (above 160 mmHg systolic) or too low (below 90 mmHg systolic) at enrolment
- You are currently taking certain water tablets or hormone-related medications (eplerenone or spironolactone) that cannot be stopped
- You have had a stroke or worsening heart failure in the 6 months before screening
- You have had a serious diabetes-related crisis, extremely high blood sugar, or a heart attack in the 6 months before screening
- You are currently on kidney dialysis, or are expected to need dialysis or a kidney transplant during the study
- You are taking certain strong medications that affect how other drugs are processed in the body and cannot be stopped (confirm with trial site)
- You have a condition called adrenal insufficiency (a problem with your adrenal glands not making enough hormones)
- You are currently taking part in another clinical study that might affect this study's results
- You are considered a protected or vulnerable individual, such as someone in detention or a prisoner
