Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 45 and 65 years old.
- People who have been diagnosed with elevated blood pressure or stage 1 high blood pressure (a top number of 120–139 and/or a bottom number of 80–89 on a blood pressure reading) for at least 6 months.
- People with a body mass index (a measure of body weight relative to height) between 25 and 35, as measured during the assessment.
- People who are able to give their informed consent to participate.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have an allergy to berries.
- People who have been taking one blood pressure-lowering medication for less than three months.
- People who are currently taking more than one blood pressure-lowering medication, or who are taking cholesterol-lowering drugs (statins), insulin, antibiotics, or anti-inflammatory medications.
- People who have an active cancer diagnosis, or who have a condition affecting the digestive system, kidneys, heart, thyroid, or nervous system, or who have had a severe head injury.
- People who currently smoke.
- People who drink more than 2 alcoholic drinks per day.
- People who are currently taking antioxidant, probiotic, or prebiotic supplements.
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who are currently enrolled in a weight loss program.
