Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are older than 18 years and younger than 85 years
- People whose pre-surgery tissue testing confirmed a type of stomach cancer called gastric adenocarcinoma
- People whose cancer was assessed before surgery as being at a certain stage (not too early and not spread to distant parts of the body, based on a standard staging system called AJCC 7th Edition) (confirm with trial site)
- People who had a specific type of stomach surgery called distal gastrectomy, which removes part of the stomach, along with a thorough removal of nearby lymph nodes (D2 lymphadenectomy) and surrounding tissue (complete mesogastric excision)
- People assessed as being in a general health category of low to moderate surgical risk (ASA class I, II, or III)
- People who have given written consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose pre-surgery biopsy did not confirm the presence of cancer
- People whose cancer was found to be at a very advanced stage or had already spread to other parts of the body (cT4b or M1)
- People with a Body Mass Index (a measure of body weight relative to height) above 30 kg/m²
- People who had the whole stomach removed or the upper part of the stomach removed (total or proximal gastrectomy)
- People who received chemotherapy or radiation therapy before surgery
- People who have had previous surgery in the upper part of the abdomen
- People who have, or have had, another type of cancer at the same time
- People who declined or refused the surgery
