- People who are male or female, with or without a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes
- People who manage their blood sugar through lifestyle changes, metformin, gliclazide, or a combination of these
- People who are between 18 and 80 years old at the time of signing the consent form

Who may not be able to join:
- People who have type 1 diabetes or a diabetes caused by a genetic condition
- People who have been diagnosed with any heart or cardiovascular disease, or who have high blood pressure (160/100 mmHg or above)
- People who regularly take any prescribed or over-the-counter medications (other than contraceptives) that affect how muscles process energy — for example, antidepressants known as SSRIs (confirm with trial site)
- People who follow a low-carbohydrate diet
- People who currently smoke or chew tobacco
- People who have been diagnosed with anaemia (low red blood cells or iron)
- People who regularly use protein powders or amino acid supplements more than 3 times per week
- People who are currently doing a structured, progressive weight or resistance training program more than 3 times per week
- People who have a personal or family history of blood clots (thrombosis)
- People who have a history of movement disorders or inherited conditions affecting muscles or fat metabolism
- People with a history of kidney disease
- People with a history of liver disease
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with a history of drug or alcohol misuse in the past two years
- People who experience claustrophobia
- People who are unable to give informed consent
