Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have had a stroke confirmed by a brain scan (either a type caused by a blocked blood vessel, confirmed by MRI, or a type caused by bleeding in the brain, confirmed by CT or MRI)
  • You are 18 years old or older
  • Before your stroke, you were mostly independent in daily life (with little to no disability)
  • After your stroke, you have some level of function remaining — not completely dependent on others for all basic needs
  • You are able to take part in memory and thinking tests within 30 days of your stroke

Who may not be able to join:

  • You had a very brief stroke (TIA/mini-stroke) or a specific type of bleeding stroke called a subarachnoid hemorrhage
  • You had a serious mental health condition before your stroke, such as schizophrenia, severe depression, or bipolar disorder
  • You had another stroke in the three months before joining the trial
  • You have severe difficulty speaking or understanding language that prevents you from taking part in assessments
  • You had severe dementia before your stroke
  • You were already significantly disabled before your stroke
  • You are almost completely dependent on others for care after your stroke
  • You have a history of cancer with a life expectancy of less than one year
  • You have another serious medical condition with a life expectancy of less than one year
  • It is not expected that you will be able to complete follow-up visits over one year
  • The trial doctor decides for any other reason that the trial is not appropriate for you (confirm with trial site)
