Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 19 and 74 years old.
  • A biopsy (tissue sample taken during an internal camera examination) has confirmed you have stomach cancer (a type called adenocarcinoma, which includes several subtypes).
  • Your stomach cancer has been assessed as locally advanced — meaning it has grown into the stomach wall or nearby tissue, but has not spread to distant parts of the body — based on standard staging tests.
  • Scans and tests show the cancer has not spread to distant organs and is not directly growing into the pancreas, spleen, or nearby organs.
  • You are generally able to carry out daily activities with no or minimal limitations (confirm with trial site regarding the specific fitness score used).
  • A doctor has assessed your overall physical health as suitable for surgery (rated on a standard medical scale as category 1, 2, or 3 out of 5).
  • You are willing to take part and have signed a consent form.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have previously had surgery on your stomach for cancer, including certain types of endoscopic (camera-guided) procedures to remove tissue.
  • You have had previous surgery on the upper part of your abdomen (though keyhole surgery to remove the gallbladder may be acceptable — confirm with trial site).
  • Scans show that nearby lymph nodes (small glands that are part of the immune system) have clumped together and are significantly enlarged (3cm or more across).
  • You needed emergency surgery because your stomach tumour caused bleeding or a tear (perforation).
  • You have a history of any other cancer, or another cancer was found during your pre-surgery tests.
  • Your overall physical health has been rated as category 4 or 5 on the standard medical fitness scale used by anaesthetists.
  • You have a severe mental health condition.
  • You have had unstable chest pain (angina) or a heart attack in the past 6 months.
  • You have had a stroke or brain bleed in the past 6 months.
  • You have serious lung disease that significantly reduces your breathing capacity (confirm with trial site).
  • You have been taking steroid tablets or injections regularly in the month before joining the study.
  • You need to have surgery for another medical condition at the same time.
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
