Who might be able to join this trial:

- People aged 18 or older who have been newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, confirmed using World Health Organization (1999) diagnostic standards

Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a known allergy to a type of diabetes medication called GLP-1RA, or whose body mass index (BMI) is below 24 kg/m²
- People who have previously used any blood sugar-lowering medications
- People whose kidneys are not functioning well enough, based on a measurement called eGFR being below 30 ml/(min·1.73 m²) (confirm with trial site)
- People who have a history of drug abuse or dependence on alcohol within the past 5 years
- People who have had difficulty following treatment plans, or who have an inconsistent diet and exercise routine
- People with a history of pancreatitis (inflamed pancreas), pancreatic tumours, a specific type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma, or advanced diabetic eye disease (stage IV or higher)
- People who have used steroid medications that affect the whole body (systemic glucocorticoids) within the past 3 months
- People who have had an infection or significant physical stress within the past four weeks
- People with other serious health conditions — such as severe heart or lung disease, hormonal disorders, neurological conditions, cancer, other pancreatic diseases, or mental illness — as assessed by the trial medical team
