Who may not be able to join:

  • People using insulin at doses above 0.5 units per kilogram of body weight per day.
  • People who have had any change in their diabetes medication within the past 3 months.
  • People whose weight has changed by more than 2% in the 2 months before joining the study.
  • People with significant health conditions affecting major organs, other than obesity or type 2 diabetes.
  • People who regularly use tobacco products.
  • People who drink alcohol heavily — defined as 3 or more drinks per day for men, or 2 or more drinks per day for women.
  • People taking medications known to affect the study's measurements (such as steroids or certain cholesterol-lowering drugs) or that increase the risk of study procedures (such as blood thinners), if those medications cannot be safely paused for the study (confirm with trial site).
  • People with anaemia, meaning a low red blood cell level (haemoglobin below 10.0 g/dL).
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • People who are unable or unwilling to follow the study procedures, or whom the research team considers unsuitable for any reason, including missed screening or medical appointments.
