Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes by a doctor, based on Chinese diabetes guidelines (2024 Edition)
- Men or women between the ages of 40 and 79 years
- People who live permanently near one of the study centres and can easily attend visits there for the next five years
- People who are willing to take part and have signed a consent form agreeing to join
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had a serious heart or blood vessel event in the past 6 months, such as a heart attack, stroke, heart failure requiring hospital treatment, or a procedure to open blocked heart arteries
- People with severe diabetes-related complications affecting the kidneys (with a certain low level of kidney function), advanced diabetes-related eye disease, or confirmed nerve damage shown by specialist testing
- People with a history of cancer, except for certain skin cancers or cancers considered to have a very good outlook
- People with a history of kidney stones, too much calcium in the blood, or a condition involving overactive parathyroid glands
- People with a history of severe liver disease, severe kidney disease, severe digestive conditions, severe infectious diseases, severe sarcoidosis or similar conditions, severe mental illness, or any other condition the clinic team considers unsuitable for participation
- People whose blood test results show calcium levels at or above the upper limit of normal, liver enzyme levels (ALT or AST) more than three times the upper limit of normal, or kidney function below a certain threshold (confirm specific values with trial site)
- People currently taking vitamin D supplements above 400 IU per day, calcium supplements above 600 mg per day, or yeast β-glucan supplements above 250 mg per day, or people with a known allergy or intolerance to vitamin D or prebiotic products
- People who have taken part in another clinical trial within the past 3 months
- People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, or who plan to become pregnant within the next five years
