For child participants:
- The child has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder
- The child is between 2 and 5 years old
- The child uses no more than 20 words (spoken, signed, or through a communication device) according to their parent or caregiver
- The child uses fewer than 5 different words during a 15-minute communication observation
- The child uses at least one consonant sound, either observed directly or reported by a caregiver
- The child's primary language is English
For caregiver participants:
- The caregiver has a child who is enrolled in this study (one caregiver per child)
- The caregiver has enough English language skills to complete surveys
Who may not be able to join:
For child participants:
- The child has a vision or hearing problem that has not been corrected with glasses, hearing aids, or other support
- The child has signs of a serious physical condition that significantly affects their movement and motor abilities
