Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 75 years old.
- People who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (according to World Health Organization standards), with a blood sugar control reading (HbA1c) between 7% and 9%, a fasting blood sugar level no higher than 11.1 mmol/L, a body mass index (BMI) of 18.5 or above, and who have had the diagnosis for no longer than 24 months.
- People who are willing to take part voluntarily and sign a consent form (if a person cannot read the form, a witness may sign on their behalf while observing the process).
- People who have never previously taken any medication to lower blood sugar.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have type 1 diabetes.
- People who have previously taken part in another clinical trial for a diabetes treatment drug.
- People who have been hospitalised in the past six months for serious diabetes-related emergencies, such as diabetic ketoacidosis, lactic acidosis, or a severe high-blood-sugar crisis.
- People who have experienced serious heart or blood vessel problems in the past six months, including severe heart failure, unstable chest pain, stroke, mini-stroke, heart attack, serious irregular heartbeat, or heart or blood vessel surgery.
- People who are currently taking steroid medications by mouth or injection (topical creams or inhaled steroids are not included in this restriction).
- People whose life expectancy is less than one year due to cancer, active tuberculosis, or a serious active infection.
- People who have a significant current urinary tract or genital infection, or a history of these infections occurring repeatedly.
- People with high blood pressure that has not been brought under control with medication, where the top number is above 160 mmHg and/or the bottom number is above 100 mmHg.
- People whose liver or kidney function test results fall outside acceptable ranges — specifically, certain liver enzyme levels that are three or more times the upper limit of normal, or a kidney filtration rate below 45 ml/min/1.73 m² (confirm with trial site for exact testing details).
- People who have a known allergy to the trial drug or any of its ingredients.
- Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant within three months of the last dose of the trial drug.
- People the trial doctor considers unsuitable for any other reason.
