Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
  • Your blood sugar control level (called HbA1c) was between 7.5% and 10.5% at your screening appointment.
  • Your body mass index (BMI — a measure of weight relative to height) is 27 or above at your screening appointment.
  • Your weight has been stable for the three months before your screening appointment.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have type 1 diabetes, a form of diabetes linked to the immune system (latent autoimmune diabetes), or have ever had a serious diabetes emergency such as diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperosmolar coma.
  • You have had, or are planning to have, surgery for weight loss (such as gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy).
  • You had a heart attack, stroke, unstable chest pain, or were hospitalised for heart failure in the three months before your screening appointment.
  • You have used insulin to manage your blood sugar at any point in the past year (brief short-term use may be acceptable — confirm with trial site).
  • You are currently taking certain blood sugar-lowering tablets that are not allowed in this trial, such as DPP-4 inhibitors or meglitinides, unless you stopped taking them at least three months before your screening appointment (confirm with trial site).
  • You have taken any medications or alternative remedies intended for weight loss within the three months before your screening appointment.
