  • People aged between 18 and 75 years old

  • People whose cancer has been assessed as being at a certain stage — growing into the stomach wall or nearby tissue but not yet spread to distant parts of the body (stage cT2–4a, N-/+, M0 according to standard cancer staging guidelines)
  • People whose pre-treatment scans show the cancer has not spread to distant organs or directly grown into the pancreas, spleen, or other nearby organs
  • People who are generally able to carry out daily activities with no or minimal limitations, as measured by a standard medical scale (ECOG score of 0 or 1)

  • People whose pre-treatment scans show enlarged or swollen lymph nodes larger than 3 cm, including those in a specific region called D3
  • People who have had another type of cancer in the past 5 years
  • People who have had unstable chest pain (angina) or a heart attack in the past 6 months
  • People who have had a stroke in the past 6 months
  • People who have been taking steroid medications continuously for the past month
  • People who need surgery for another medical condition at the same time
  • People who need emergency surgery because of a complication from their stomach cancer, such as bleeding, blockage, or a hole in the stomach
  • People whose lung function test results show significantly reduced breathing capacity (FEV1 less than 50% of the expected value)
  • People whose cancer has spread widely and diffusely across the stomach lining
  • People whose cancer has been confirmed to involve the junction between the oesophagus and stomach, or the first part of the small intestine (duodenum)
  • People who have a known allergy to iodine
  • People who have chosen not to have keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery
