Who might be able to join this trial:
- People with confirmed advanced liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma), diagnosed through two imaging scans or a liver biopsy, who are eligible for a combination treatment called atezolizumab-bevacizumab.
- People whose liver is still functioning reasonably well — specifically, those rated as Child-Pugh A (a medical scoring system for liver health) if they have underlying liver scarring (cirrhosis).
- People whose general physical health and ability to carry out daily activities is rated at 2 or below on a standard medical scale (called the ECOG performance status scale, where 0 means fully active and higher numbers mean more limited).
- People who have no esophageal varices (enlarged veins in the food pipe) or only mild ones that are considered low-risk, confirmed by a pre-treatment camera examination of the digestive tract.
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose liver function is severely reduced, rated as Child-Pugh class C.
- People whose general physical health and activity level is rated above 2 on the standard medical scale.
- People with blood vessel disorders or uncontrolled high blood pressure.
- People with serious autoimmune conditions (where the immune system attacks the body).
- People who are unlikely to attend follow-up appointments.
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who do not wish to take part in the study.
