Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
- Adults who are 60 years of age or older
- People who scored between 24 and 28 on a standard memory and thinking test (called the MMSE) within the past 3 months
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have type 1 diabetes, or who have experienced a serious diabetes-related crisis such as diabetic ketoacidosis or diabetic coma
- People whose blood sugar levels are poorly controlled (based on a blood test result called HbA1c being above 10.0%)
- People who scored below 24 on the MMSE memory and thinking test
- People who have been diagnosed with dementia, such as Alzheimer's disease
- People whose thinking or memory difficulties appear to be caused by another condition
- People who need to take blood-thinning or anti-clotting medications (other than any medication being studied in this trial)
- People who have a thyroid condition that requires treatment, based on abnormal thyroid test results
- People who have severe depression
- People who have a serious active infection, who have recently had surgery, or who have experienced a major physical injury
- People who have a condition affecting the pituitary or adrenal glands
- People who have another medical condition serious enough to require a hospital stay
- People who have had a history of alcohol or drug misuse in the year before joining the trial
- People who have taken medications known to affect memory or thinking within the 3 months before joining the trial
- People who the trial's lead doctor considers unsuitable for participation for any other reason
