Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People who are able to give their informed agreement to take part in the trial
- People who have already been assessed by a gut specialist (gastroenterologist) and have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), functional dyspepsia (a condition causing ongoing stomach discomfort without a clear physical cause), or both
- People whose condition meets a specific set of diagnostic guidelines known as the ROME III Asian criteria for functional gut disorders (confirm with trial site)
- People who are able to communicate in Malay or English
Who may not be able to join:
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with a history of certain other gut conditions, including Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Coeliac Disease, Pancreatitis, Gallstone disease, or Diverticulitis
- People who have had any type of cancer
- People who have previously had surgery to remove any part of the digestive tract, except for the appendix or gallbladder, or who have an intestinal stoma (an opening in the abdomen for waste)
- People who regularly use strong opiate-based pain medications (such as morphine) that may affect how the bowel works
- People who have taken antibiotics in the past two weeks or the past one month
- People who have consumed probiotics, prebiotics, or fibre supplements in the past one month
- People who are on tube feeding or a texture-modified diet
- People who have cognitive impairment or a severe mental health condition such as Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder
- People who work shift work (for example, nurses or doctors working rotating shifts)
