Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been confirmed through a stomach camera (gastroscopy) to have a type of stomach cancer called adenocarcinoma, located in the stomach or at the lower junction where the food pipe meets the stomach (a specific subtype called Siewert type III)
- People aged 18 years or older
- People whose cancer is considered operable (not yet spread to distant parts of the body) based on a stomach camera and a CT scan with contrast dye, and where a medical team has recommended stomach removal surgery as a treatment option
- People who have signed a written consent form agreeing to take part in the trial
- People who have recently taken part in another clinical trial involving an experimental medicine may still be considered, if the trial team determines there is unlikely to be any interference with this study's procedures (confirm with trial site)
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose cancer is located at the food pipe–stomach junction but classified as a different subtype (Siewert type I or II)
- People who are unable or unwilling to take part in the study procedures
- People who are unable or unwilling to have surgery
- People who are pregnant at the time of the specialised imaging scan (called a PET/CT scan), due to radiation exposure from the experimental scan
- People who are not able to make their own medical decisions
- People with medical or mental health conditions that affect their ability to give informed consent
- People who are unable to read or write and therefore cannot complete the questionnaires about quality of life and resource use
- People who are unable to undergo a PET/CT scan, for example due to severe claustrophobia, exceeding the scanner's weight limit, or being unable to lie still and flat for around 30 minutes
