Who might be able to join this trial:

• Adults aged between 18 and 80 years old
• People who have been diagnosed with a type of stomach cancer called gastric adenocarcinoma, confirmed by laboratory testing of tissue
• People whose stomach cancer has been assessed as being at a specific stage that has not spread to distant parts of the body (confirm with trial site for exact staging details)
• People who are planned to have a type of keyhole surgery to remove the lower part of the stomach (laparoscopic distal gastrectomy)

• People who have serious other illnesses or health conditions alongside their cancer
• People who have a severe blockage at the stomach outlet, or who have a recurrence of stomach cancer or cancer in a remaining portion of the stomach from a previous surgery
• People whose stomach has perforated (developed a hole), or who need emergency surgery
• People who have previously had radiotherapy treatment
• People who have had major abdominal surgeries in the past, other than keyhole removal of the gallbladder or appendix
• People where cancer has spread to the lining of the abdomen, the liver, or the ovaries, or who have another separate tumour elsewhere in the body, discovered either before or during surgery
• People who have diabetes and whose blood sugar levels have not been well controlled recently
• People who have an autoimmune disease and have been treated with steroid medications
• People whose body mass index (a measure of weight relative to height) is 30 or above, or below 18
• People who have bleeding in the digestive tract and whose blood count (haemoglobin) is below a certain level
• People who have low protein levels in their blood (specifically, albumin below a certain level)
• People who have high blood pressure in the vein that leads to the liver (portal hypertension)
• People who are found during surgery to have severe swelling or heavy scarring as a result of pre-surgery cancer treatment
• People where the cancer is found during surgery to have grown into the duodenum (the first part of the small intestine)
• People who need additional organs removed during the surgery
• People whose surgical reconstruction method differs from the specific technique required by this trial (confirm with trial site)
• People whose pre-surgery tissue test results do not match the findings from the tissue removed during surgery
• People who choose not to participate
• People who do not follow the study requirements or who withdraw from the study before completing it
