Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who are scheduled for planned (non-emergency) heart surgery that does not involve the coronary arteries, where a heart-lung bypass machine will be used
- People whose care team has identified excessive bleeding from small blood vessels during surgery that requires a clotting factor transfusion
- People who are willing and able to follow all study procedures for the full duration of the trial and have signed a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a medical reason they cannot receive the study drug FEIBA, or who have had a serious allergic reaction to it or any of its ingredients
- People with a condition where blood clots form throughout the body in an uncontrolled way (confirm with trial site)
- People who have an active blood clot, blockage in a blood vessel, or are having a heart attack at the time of the study
- People who are pregnant
- People who are not able to consent for themselves, or who do not wish to consent
- People with a known pre-existing blood clotting disorder
- People who are having coronary artery bypass surgery
- People who have had an organ transplant or are receiving a heart assist device as part of their surgery
- People currently being supported by an ECMO machine (a machine that takes over the work of the heart and lungs) (confirm with trial site)
- People who have a condition called heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, where the blood thinner heparin has caused a drop in platelet levels
- People who do not wish to receive blood products under any circumstances, including when the medical team considers them necessary
