Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are willing to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part
- People aged 60 or older who are permanent residents of Guangzhou and have not had a specialist stomach screening in the past three years
- People aged 45 or older who have at least one of the following risk factors: a past infection with a bacteria called Helicobacter pylori (confirmed by a breath test); a previous diagnosis of certain stomach conditions such as chronic atrophic gastritis, stomach ulcer, certain types of stomach polyps, hypertrophic gastritis, or pernicious anaemia; a close family member (parent, sibling, or child) who has been diagnosed with stomach cancer; or a long history of eating a high-salt diet, heavy smoking (at least 20 pack-years), or heavy alcohol use (around 100 mL of spirits per day)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who the trial doctor considers unsuitable for the study for any reason
- People with a known allergy to medical polymer materials
- People with a psychiatric condition that would make it difficult to cooperate with the procedures
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with serious ongoing health conditions affecting the heart, lungs, or nervous system that could make the examination unsafe
- People with inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis) or pouches in the walls of the digestive tract (diverticulosis)
- People with known or suspected abnormalities, blockages, narrowing, or abnormal connections in the digestive tract
- People who have significant difficulty swallowing
- People experiencing acute stomach or gut symptoms such as severe pain, vomiting, suspected bowel blockage, or severe constipation
- People who have had major stomach or digestive surgery in the past (such as procedures reconnecting the oesophagus, stomach, or small intestine)
- People who are too physically unwell to change body position during the procedure, or who have another serious illness at the same time
- People who are medically unsuitable for procedures involving the abdomen, or who do not wish to have them
- People the trial doctor considers unsuitable for the specific type of stomach scan used in this study (confirm with trial site)
- People who do not wish to provide informed consent
