Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 65 years old
- You have epilepsy that has not responded well to medications, and after thorough testing (including brain scans and monitoring of your brain's electrical activity), a specialist team has decided that surgery to remove part of the brain is not a suitable option for you
- You have been diagnosed with a type of epilepsy that starts in one specific area of the brain, or a type that affects the whole brain from the start
- Despite taking epilepsy medications, you still have 4 or more seizures per month, or your brain shows frequent abnormal electrical activity on a brain wave test (EEG)
- You are able to look after a wound at home, and your home environment is clean and suitable for recovery
Who may not be able to join:
- You are under 18 years old
- You are considered suitable for brain surgery to remove the area causing seizures, or if there is any uncertainty about whether surgery might be an option — including if your epilepsy may be caused by an immune system problem
- You have a brain condition that is getting worse over time, a serious disease affecting your internal organs, or a serious problem with blood clotting
- You already have an electrical device implanted in your brain or body, such as a pacemaker, a heart defibrillator, or any similar device
- You are pregnant (a pregnancy test will be required for all women who could potentially be pregnant)
- You have metal implants in your body (confirm with trial site, as this needs to be discussed with the trial doctor or technical support team on a case-by-case basis)
- You have had a previous head injury or stroke — this does not automatically prevent you from joining, but the trial doctor and technical support team must be consulted first (confirm with trial site)
