Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with epilepsy (either as a primary condition or as a result of another condition), and whose medical records are complete
- People who have been regularly taking a medication called valproic acid sodium for at least 5 days, long enough for the medication level in the blood to become stable, and who have been consistent about taking it as prescribed
- People who are taking valproic acid sodium either on its own or alongside other anti-epilepsy medications
- People who do not have significant liver or kidney problems, and who are not pregnant
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose medical records are incomplete, who have not been consistent about taking their medication, or whose blood medication levels were not measured at the right time
- People who have serious conditions affecting the lungs, digestive system, liver, kidneys, or other major organs
- People who are taking valproic acid only to prevent epilepsy from developing, rather than to treat an existing epilepsy diagnosis
- People who have been taking valproic acid for more than 5 days but have frequently switched between different forms of the medication (for example, between tablets and liquid) during that time
- People who are over 65 years old and are currently in an intensive care unit (ICU)
