Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 30 and 75 years old
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) — a measure of body weight relative to height — falls between 21 and 45
- Your blood sugar control level (called HbA1c, a measure of average blood sugar over 3 months) is between 7.0% and 11%
- Your kidneys are functioning well enough, based on a specific blood test measuring kidney filtering ability (confirm with trial site)

- You manage your type 2 diabetes through diet alone, or with one or both of the medications metformin or a sulfonylurea (a common type of diabetes tablet)
- If you take a cholesterol-lowering medication called a statin, your dose must have been unchanged for at least 3 months
Who may not be able to join:
- You are currently taking certain diabetes medications, including GLP-1 receptor agonists (such as injections like semaglutide), DPP-4 inhibitors, thiazolidinediones, or insulin
- You are taking any other medications (apart from metformin or sulfonylurea) that are known to affect blood sugar levels
- You have an advanced eye condition related to diabetes (called proliferative retinopathy) or your kidney filtering ability is below a certain level
- You are a woman who could become pregnant, unless you are using an appropriate form of contraception
