Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have had a severe head injury from a blunt force (such as a fall or car accident) and have a low level of consciousness, measured by a standard scale called the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), with a score below 10.
  • People who have had a head injury with a GCS score above 10 but whose brain scan shows signs of injury, such as bleeding around or within the brain, blood pooling under or outside the skull lining, bruising deep within the brain tissue, widespread damage to nerve fibres, or a skull fracture that presses inward.
  • People who have had a penetrating head injury (such as from a sharp object or projectile entering the skull).

Who may not be able to join:

  • Females of childbearing age whose urine pregnancy test comes back positive.
  • People whose brain injury is so severe that death of brain function is expected or confirmed within 48 hours of arriving at hospital.
  • People who were given anti-seizure medication before arriving at hospital.
  • People who experienced a seizure before being enrolled in the trial.
