Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who have been found to have a growth beneath the lining of the upper digestive tract (such as the stomach or esophagus), detected by a standard camera examination of the digestive tract (endoscopy), and who have also had a specialised ultrasound examination of that area (called an endoscopic ultrasound, or EUS)
- People who have received a confirmed tissue diagnosis of a type of digestive tract tumour called a GIST, or another similar growth, through surgery, endoscopic removal, ultrasound-guided sampling, or another biopsy method
- People whose EUS scan images meet specific technical quality standards, including being taken with certain approved equipment, clearly showing the growth and surrounding tissue, including specific required views, containing no added markings or overlays, and having a minimum image resolution (confirm with trial site)
- People whose standard endoscopy images clearly show the location, surface features, and edges of the growth, including at least one close-up and one wider view
- People for whom complete medical records and tissue analysis reports are available
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age
- People for whom an endoscopic ultrasound examination is medically unsafe, those who have previously had stomach surgery, people who are pregnant, people with serious other health conditions, or people with a known allergy to anaesthetic medications
- People whose EUS examination could not be completed due to a narrowing or blockage in the esophagus, a large growth causing obstruction, significant changes in heart rate or breathing during the procedure, the person being unable to tolerate the examination, or too much food remaining in the digestive tract
- People whose EUS images do not meet the required technical quality standards
- People whose tissue samples do not meet diagnostic requirements — for example, where not enough tissue was collected, where only partial surgical removal was performed (for the GIST group), or where key laboratory staining results are missing from the pathology report (confirm with trial site)
- People whose tissue results show that the growth has spread from a cancer that started somewhere else in the body
