Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with epilepsy by a neurologist, based on having had at least two seizures (that were not triggered by a specific cause) more than 24 hours apart
- Your blood test shows a low vitamin D level (below 30 ng/ml)
- You are a male between 20 and 40 years old
- Your body weight falls in the normal range (BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 kg/m²)
- You have been taking certain seizure medications — specifically Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, or Phenobarbital — for between 6 months and 2 years
- You are not taking any other medications that affect the brain or nervous system, apart from your seizure medication
Who may not be able to join:
- You are taking any of the following seizure medications: Sodium valproate, Oxcarbazepine, Topiramate, Lamotrigine, or Levetiracetam
- You have a type of epilepsy that causes "absence seizures" (brief episodes of staring or blanking out)
- You drink alcohol regularly
- You smoke
- You are currently taking diabetes medications, vitamin antioxidant supplements, blood pressure medications, heart rhythm medications, cholesterol-lowering medications, or sedatives
- You have a known allergy or sensitivity to vitamin D3
- You have a history of, or currently have, any heart condition (such as heart attack, coronary heart disease, irregular heartbeat, or heart failure)
- You have any other neurological condition such as migraines or stroke
- You have a respiratory condition such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- You have kidney problems or reduced kidney function
- You have a hormonal or gland-related condition such as diabetes or a thyroid disorder
- You have rheumatoid arthritis
- You have any liver disease
- You have or have had cancer
- You have a psychiatric condition such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder
- You are currently taking iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium, or multivitamin supplements
- You are already regularly doing yoga or breathing exercises
- You have high calcium levels in your blood (hypercalcemia)
