Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 70 years
- People who are able to understand and sign a consent form agreeing to take part
- People who have tested negative for HIV
- People who have tested negative for pregnancy
- People who have had irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms for at least 3 months, with those symptoms first starting at least 6 months ago
- People who have recurring stomach pain at least once a week, linked to two or more of the following: the act of going to the toilet, a change in how often bowel movements happen, or a change in the shape or consistency of stools (based on a standard set of diagnostic guidelines called Rome IV criteria)
- People who have fewer than three bowel movements per week, and also experience at least one of the following in more than 25% of toilet visits: lumpy or hard stools, a feeling of not fully emptying the bowel, a feeling of blockage in the back passage, or needing to use physical methods to help pass stools (confirm with trial site)
- People who are able to understand and follow the requirements of the study protocol
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are currently pregnant
- People who are currently breastfeeding
- People who have tested positive for HIV
- People who do not meet the inclusion criteria listed above
