Who might be able to join this trial:
- The patient must be between 2 and 16 years old.
- The patient must have already been diagnosed with epilepsy for at least 1 year.
- The patient must have had at least one episode of prolonged, uncontrolled seizures (called convulsive status epilepticus) in the past 12 months.
Who may not be able to join:
- If consent from the parent or guardian cannot be obtained, the patient cannot take part.
- The patient cannot join if they have a known allergy or medical reason to avoid a medication called ketamine.
- The patient cannot join if there is a medical reason they cannot receive injections into a muscle.
- If another member of the same family is already taking part in this trial, additional family members cannot also join.
- Only the first qualifying seizure episode will be considered for the trial — later episodes from the same patient will not be included.
