Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are a male who has been diagnosed with epilepsy by a neurologist, based on having had at least two seizures (that were not triggered by a specific cause) more than 24 hours apart
- Your vitamin D level is low (below 30 ng/ml, as measured by a blood test)
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is between 20 and 24 kg/m² (a measure of healthy weight range for your height)
- You have been taking certain epilepsy medications (specifically Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, or Phenobarbital) for between 6 months and 2 years
- You are not taking any other medications that affect the brain or mood, such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, anxiety medications, or anesthetics
- You are in generally good physical health
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a type of epilepsy that causes "absence seizures" (brief episodes of staring or blanking out)
- You are currently taking certain other epilepsy medications, including Sodium valproate, Ethosuximide, Oxcarbazepine, Topiramate, Lamotrigine, or Levetiracetam
- You are a smoker
- You regularly drink alcohol
- You have had an allergic reaction to Vitamin D3 in the past
- You have high blood pressure
- You have a thyroid condition
- You have diabetes
- You have a kidney disease
- You have a liver disease
- You have high calcium levels in your blood
