Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes for at least 6 months (24 weeks)
- Your HbA1c blood sugar control reading is between 7.5% and 10.5% (a measure of average blood sugar over the past few months)
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) — a measure of body weight relative to height — is between 22.5 and 40.0
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a type of diabetes other than Type 2 Diabetes
- You had a serious diabetes-related emergency (such as diabetic ketoacidosis, lactic acidosis, or a dangerous high blood sugar crisis) in the past 6 months
- You have had a severe low blood sugar episode, or any low blood sugar episodes without warning symptoms, in the past 6 months
- You have a personal or family history of a specific type of thyroid cancer (medullary thyroid carcinoma), thyroid C-cell overgrowth, or a condition called multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2
- You have a history of pancreas inflammation (pancreatitis), risk factors for it, or had a symptomatic gallbladder problem in the past 6 months
- The trial doctor has determined that you have a condition affecting how your stomach empties or absorbs food — such as previous weight-loss surgery, stomach removal surgery, irritable bowel syndrome, persistent indigestion, or delayed stomach emptying (confirm with trial site)
- You have used any diabetes medications in the past 3 months
- Your blood hemoglobin level (a measure of red blood cells) is too low — below 100 g/L if you are female, or below 110 g/L if you are male
- Your fasting blood sugar level is 13.9 mmol/L or higher
- Your liver enzyme levels (AST and/or ALT) are more than 2.5 times higher than the normal upper limit
- Your total bilirubin level (related to liver function) is more than 1.5 times higher than the normal upper limit
- Your fasting triglyceride level (a type of fat in the blood) is above 5.6 mmol/L (500 mg/dL)
