All participants must meet these criteria:

You are between 18 and 70 years old
You are able to understand and agree to participate in the study (give informed consent)

For one part of the study (Aim 1) — people with epilepsy having surgery:

You have had electrodes placed in the hippocampus (a part of the brain) as part of Stage 1 epilepsy surgery evaluation
You have an IQ score of 80 or above (confirm with trial site)

You have a responsive neurostimulation (RNS) brain device with at least one electrode placed in the hippocampus

You have had a full convulsive (whole-body) seizure at any point in the last year

For all participants:

You are legally blind
You have used tobacco, marijuana, recreational drugs, or alcohol within one week before cognitive (thinking and memory) testing
You are not able to give informed consent
You are currently pregnant
